2021 BMW X3
Overview
The BMW X3 Sport Adventure Vehicle has become one of the most popular luxury vehicles with its mix of cargo space, safety features, and BMW’s highly engineered sport handling. Adventure awaits with an engine powered by the automaker's award-winning High-Precision Direct Injection, Valvetronic, and Double-VANOS technologies. The 2021 X3 gets the latest evolution of BMW’s powerful inline 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo. The 2.0-liter engine provides an output of 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque that kicks in lower in the RPM range, allowing you to take full advantage of the power, right off the line. Designed with near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution, the X3 has a balanced chassis that promotes stability and road confidence. This SAV from BMW is a truly versatile vehicle that lends itself to commuting, adventure, and performance.
The Perfect Drive for...
The demanding driver. The X3 accommodates everything your adventure requires, on- and off-road. With 8 inches of ground clearance, this vehicle is adept at navigating tricky conditions and steep terrain other vehicles wouldn't even be able to consider. Adaptive M Sport suspension for the M40i also ensures comfort and control when you’re cruising on the highway. Beyond its adventurous spirit and off-road capabilities, the X3 offers a level of premium comfort rarely found among the off-road community, making it just as comfortable on the street. Technology features and creature comforts aren't skimped on here, and once seated inside the cozy cabin, you'll want to drive the X3 everywhere. Good news, you can.
Drive and Handling
The rear-wheel-drive X3 sDrive30i and the all-wheel-drive xDrive30i come with the latest BMW TwinPower Turbo 2.0-liter 4-cylinder inline engine. If you're a glutton for power, the X3 M40i comes with the fine-tuned 3.0-liter M Performance TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder inline engine, which propels a best-in-segment 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds. Both powertrains come strapped with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport Automatic Transmission with shift paddles, tuned to match the engine’s performance characteristics. xDrive, BMW’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive System, works in tandem with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) to monitor road conditions and is standard on the X3 xDrive30i and M40i. Once it senses excess slip, it sends power to the wheel with the surest footing, improving traction and delivering neutral, responsive handling.
The BMW’s Active Kidney Grille and BMW Air Curtains, use improved aerodynamics to reduce fuel consumption and noise levels at highway speeds. The Active Kidney Grille knows when the engine, brakes, and other components need air and opens the air vents, then closes them when no further air intake is required. As part of BMW’s Dynamic Handling Package, Dynamic Damper Controls adjusts the X3’s shock absorbers from their softest to firmest settings. Dynamic Damper Control allows you to choose a ride that’s smooth and comfortable for cruising, or sporty and firm for spirited drives.
Key Features
Safety
Every BMW X3 comes standard with the Active Guard system which includes Frontal Collision Warning to monitor accident risks – and alerts the driver to take action when needed. This feature warns you about potential collisions and if a collision is imminent, engages the brakes to reduce or mitigate an accident. Park Distance Control is also standard, which uses the many sensors around the vehicle to make parking between two cars a no-brainer.
An optional safety feature with “stop-and-go” is available with BMW’s Driving Assistant Plus Package. The system monitors traffic conditions and slows or stops your BMW when necessary in rush hour traffic without having to press the brake or accelerator pedal. Pressing the resume button regains your previous speed. At highway speeds, if the system senses a potential side collision, automated steering helps guide the X3 away from danger.
Technology
The latest iDrive system includes natural language understanding, so the X3 responds to your voice command, using natural speech. iDrive also responds to touch or optional Gesture Control. Essential driving information appears on the optional 8.8-inch instrument screen – or the 12.3-inch screen of the optional Dynamic Digital Instrument Cluster, available with the Executive Tier.
The Premium Tier option comes with a full-color Head-up Display that projects driving data in your line of sight, while BMW Navigation Professional keeps you on the right route and Advanced Real-Time Traffic Information helps avoid slowdowns. Plus, enjoy the added comfort of Heated Front Seats and Steering Wheel.
Alternative Options
The BMW 2021 X3 may be the perfect off-road adventure vehicle, but if more of your adventures happen on asphalt, then your dream car looks more like the BMW Z4. Both engine choices get you up to 60mph in less than 5.5 seconds and the 19-inch wheels make a statement as they transfer all that power to the road. If your BMW adventure requires room for the whole family, the BMW X7 has room for everyone. BMW's largest SUV ever has comfortable seating and room for the whole family. This powerful model has engine options that will let you take them anywhere.
